Chico Airfest crash lands
After two years, the Chico AirFest has hit bumpy weather—specifically, the Chico Chamber of Commerce’s announcement March 28 that it would no longer produce the show, citing financial losses both years. Unless some other group takes up the slack—highly unlikely—the air show has been grounded.
Created to foster awareness of the Chico Municipal Airport, the AirFest was a big success in terms of attendance and excitement, chamber President and CEO Jim Goodwin explained, but it still lost money and faced “the prospect that it would lose money once again.” The city of Chico contributed $20,000 to the event.
