Carjacker doesn’t get far

Stolen vehicle located just minutes after alleged car thief flees

On the morning of Monday (Aug. 17) an alleged carjacker pushed a woman away from her vehicle, which she'd left running at her home near the intersection of Madrone and Vallombrosa avenues, and drove off in plain sight of a Chico Fire engine.

The suspect, 30-year-old Barry Xaysana, allegedly pushed the woman from her Subaru Outback and drove off alongside a woman driving a silver Honda who police believe to be involved, according to a Chico Police Department press release. Meanwhile, license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions were broadcast to law enforcement agencies, and officers found the Subaru parked behind the Boot Barn on The Esplanade just 10 minutes later. Xaysana was arrested in the bathroom of the nearby Jack in the Box restaurant.

Police are still looking for the reportedly stolen silver Honda Accord, which has a California license plate number of 7ABV895.
