Campus rapes, burglaries tick up
Chico State’s security report shows slight crime increases
Increases in reported rapes and burglaries represent the most conspicuous statistical changes on the Annual Security Report released by Chico State Monday (Oct. 1).
Last year, according to university crime statistics, 12 people were raped within the campus area—up from 10 in 2016 and four the year before. All nine of the rapes on campus occurred in residences. Burglaries increased to 13 from nine in 2016; there also were 13 in 2015. Robberies have jumped, though in small numbers (four total in 2017, up from two and one, respectively).
The university compiles security and fire reports annually in accordance with the federal Clery Act; visit tinyurl.com/CSUC-Clery for full details.
