Campus program honored
Chico State’s Green Campus Program earned major props last week after an announcement that the group had won the 2008 Best Practices Award for Student Efficiency.
The honor will come from the Energy Efficiency Partnership Program during an upcoming higher education sustainability conference at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Developed by the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit Alliance to Save Energy, Green Campus is a student-led program that focuses on campus energy-saving projects through education and outreach at 13 campuses in California.
At Chico State, the group has implemented many energy-saving measures since it got up and running about three years ago. Its projects include a software program that automatically shuts off idle computers and a successful campaign to adjust the campus’ thermostat just a few degrees during the winter and summer.
