Butte lags on health
A recent survey by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that ranks counties across the U.S. based on their health put Butte near the bottom of the list in California, at 42 out of 57 counties. The survey takes into consideration factors such as length of life (48 out of 57), quality of life (34), bad health behaviors like smoking and drinking (43), physical environment (17), social and economic circumstances (27) and clinical care (37). Overall, Marin County ranked No. 1, while nearby Glenn ranked 28th, just ahead of Sacramento.
