Parrot theft in Chico thwarted

Last Saturday morning (Feb. 8), Chico Police officers responded to a call from Valley Oak Veterinary Center on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway regarding the previous night’s theft of an 18-year-old Amazon parrot by a white, goateed man wearing a long coat.

The next day, CPD Officer Dane Gregory—who’d been assigned to investigate the case of the purloined parrot—was dispatched to the 2800 block of Fair Street for a problem with transients. He arrived to find 28-year-old Corey Luse with a parrot (not the one pictured). Luse also fit the description of the bird burglar.

The parrot, valued at $2,000, was returned unharmed and Luse was booked into the Butte County Jail on burglary charges.
