Boynton Beach Club
A sprightly cast of senior-citizen performers cavort through this whimsically engaging tale of romance among the middle-aged. The “beach club” is actually a “bereavement center,” a support group for widows and widowers in an upscale Florida retirement town, and it provides the central setting for this multicharacter romantic comedy with a fancifully bittersweet tinge to it. Brenda Vaccarro, Sally Kellerman, Dyan Cannon, Joseph Bologna, Michael Nouri, Len Cariou and Renee Taylor—most of them veterans of sexy comedy circa 1970—all get to shine here. Seidelman gets especially poignant work from erstwhile starlets Vaccaro and Cannon in pointedly offsetting roles.
