Biking to work
Chico is in the top of the pack
According to 2010 census figures, approximately 5.5 percent (1,930 residents) of Chico’s workforce commuted to work by bicycle. That’s a fairly significant number of riders, considering that less than 1 percent of Americans ride to work. In fact, of all California cities with a population of more than 65,000 residents, only three cities, Davis, Berkeley and Santa Barbara, had a greater share of commuters (22.1 percent, 8.8 percent, and 6.4 percent, respectively). Here’s how Chico stacked up to other cities of similar size:
City | Population | % of Bike Commuters |
---|---|---|
Chico | 86,213 | 5.5 |
Redding | 89,901 | 1.7 |
Citrus Heights | 83,490 | 0.7 |
Livermore | 81,178 | 1.3 |
San Leandro | 85,159 | 0.1 |
