Bicyclist dies from injuries

A Chico State college student struck by a car on the 300 block of Nord Avenue while riding her bike on the night of Sept. 22 has succumbed to her injuries, according to a Chico Police Department press release.

Kristina Chesterman, 21, was allegedly hit by Riley Dean Hoover, 19, who was subsequently arrested on charges of DUI causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a collision. An additional charge of gross vehicular manslaughter will be filed by the Butte County District Attorney’s Office in the wake of Chesterman’s death. Police arrested Hoover following a report that he had crashed his vehicle into a parked car at 730 Nord Ave.

Chesterman was a nursing student and, her family said, a registered organ donor whose “legacy will continue to live on through the organ donation/transplant program,” according to the press release.
