BEC gets water nod
County recognizes environmental group as SGMA representative
Putting environmentalists and residential well-users on equal footing with farmers, the Butte County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday (June 26) supporting the Butte Environmental Council’s involvement in groundwater management.
As reported in the CN&R (“Fighting to be heard,” Newslines, May 31), BEC requested representation as the county participates in governance plans under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, or SGMA. Supervisors previously passed a resolution granting this status to a farming group, the Agricultural Groundwater Users of Butte County.
Tuesday’s resolution also commits the county to supporting a domestic well-user and an at-large environmental representative in the governance structure of each of the four sub-basins, or groundwater jurisdictions.
