Another burned body
Sheriff’s deputies discover corpse in burning vehicle.
A burned body was found on Sept. 3 on a rural stretch of the Oro-Quincy Highway east of Mountain House.
Around 7 p.m. that day, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car on fire along the highway, and the call was transferred to Cal Fire, according to a BCSO press release. Fire responders found a corpse in the burning vehicle; investigators are treating the “suspicious death” as a homicide and have been tight-lipped on details. The identity and sex of the deceased have not been released.
It’s the third time in recent memory area law enforcement officials have reported the discovery of a burned corpse. In May, the body of Marat Magdeev, a 21-year-old Russian-born man, was found burned beyond recognition in a walnut orchard south of Hamilton City. Then, in early June, the body of 29-year-old Andrew Curbow was found in a burning car parked in an orchard west of Chico. That death was ruled a suicide.
