Wondering about your credit rating but not wanting to have to pay anything to get it? That information and more is just a mouse click away at this federally mandated site offering free credit reports. First, take note: This is the only Web site where you can get a free copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus once every 12 months. Beware of “phishers” who may send you e-mails asking for you to send them personal information for a free report. Consumers need to go to the authentic site, as the people who run it will not bug you with e-mails. You can request your free credit reports once per year, and you can do so without your credit rating being affected. You can also obtain your free reports by calling (877) 322-8228, and you will receive your report by mail within two weeks.
