Ron Sherman bows out of CUSD Board of Trustees race
The race for the Chico Unified School District Board of Trustees is down one candidate heading into the final full month before the November general election.
Longtime resident Ron Sherman (pictured), a Chico State alumnus and retired postal worker, has bowed out of the election. He issued a short statement this week, citing health issues for his decision. Sherman cannot remove his name from the ballot at this late date, but he will cease his campaign.
His announcement means that six candidates will be vying for the three open seats this November. Incumbents Kathleen Kaiser and Andrea Lerner Thompson are seeking re-election (longtime Trustee Rick Rees is not).
The women face challengers in retired CUSD employee Eileen Robinson, as well Dean Stefanides, Erik Lyon and Sean Worthington, who have formed a slate calling itself Putting Kids First. (See “Candidates line up for a tough job,” Newslines, Sept. 16).
