Americans support eco-efforts

It’s pretty obvious that municipalities have never been so passionate about being environmentally friendly, but what do everyday people think about the prospects of going green?

A recent Zogby poll shows a majority of Americans think the efforts will benefit their communities by encouraging new “green-collar” jobs and boosting the local economy.

Commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the survey indicates that a majority (56 percent) of Americans think their local governments should go green by instituting eco-friendly and energy-efficiency measures in their communities—even if the measures mean they must make significant lifestyle changes. In addition, nearly half (48 percent) of the respondents in the survey said they would be willing to pay higher taxes to fund the measures.
