Americans still hitting the holiday roads

Thanksgiving travel plans haven’t changed for most folks

Despite a sagging economy, only a small percentage of Americans appear to be rethinking their Thanksgiving holiday travel plans. According to AAA, about 41 million people will head for destinations at least 50 milesfrom home. That’s a decrease of 600,000 travelers (or 1.4 percent) from last season.

Of those people, about 81 percent are expected to travel by automobile. That could be due to the fact that gas prices are down more than $1 from last year at this time. The national average for self-serve regular is $2.07 per gallon.

What does that mean for your holiday budget?
