Ag students on the rise

Chico State’s food marketing team brings home top honors

The college’s domestic team placed first in its division at the Western Collegiate Food Marketing Competition in Fresno, beating tough challengers from Fresno State and Cal Poly Pomona. The group’s idea was based on marketing and producing organic and locally raised goats for meat.

Meanwhile, Chico State’s international team placed second in its division for a plan for marketing gourmet fruit butter in London. Additionally, the team earned second place for most innovative market idea, and second again for best PowerPoint presentation.

Each team must come up with an innovative product and a marketing strategy and then present it to a panel of industry experts. The annual competition helps students prepare for careers in the industry.
