Fewer Americans struggling with food budgets
The percentage of Americans who struggle to afford food is at the lowest point since 2008. Gallup pollsters began asking the question upon launching the Well-Being Index that year, when 16.4 percent of those asked reported they’d struggled to afford food in the last year. That number was the previous low, broken only by the latest installment, in which 15.8 percent of Americans reported difficulty buying food. Analysts believe the decrease likely is related to more employment and worldwide food prices, which have been declining since April 2014.
