A phone call away
The Chico Peace and Justice Center launched a phone-a-thon in the City Plaza Tuesday and Wednesday (July 24-25) as part of a statewide campaign to tell Congress to end the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home. As of Tuesday evening, Rep. Wally Herger’s office announced it had received 65 calls, said Sue Hilderbrand (pictured), director of the center.
“If we don’t participate in democracy, we’ll lose it,” she told one passerby who noticed the signs with Herger’s phone number and large, fake red phone booths in the plaza. “Would you like to make a call?” she asked, offering her cell phone.
Similar days of action will be held in August and September.
