A beauty …
Tony Award-winning play The Beauty Queen of Leenane opens at the Blue Room Theater, Friday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The ‘theatre-noir melodrama’ is written by Irishman Martin McDonagh, who also penned last year’s Blue Room hit, The Cripple of Innishmaan. This play follows 42-year old spinster Maureen (Mary Crowlie, left) as she tries to escape her meddling and manipulative mother Mag (Kathryn McCreary). Maureen finally meets a handsome suitor (Evan Allen, right) and sees this as her last opportunity for love and happiness. It all happens at the Blue Room Theatre, 139 West First St. (above Collier Hardware). Tickets: $10, general; $8, seniors and students; $5, all seats every Thursday. The play runs Thursdays-Saturdays, through Aug. 25, with a special Sunday night performance Aug. 12. To reserve tickets and for more information: 895-3749.
