Rice

One of the crops hit hardest by the drought is rice. Almost all California rice is grown in the Central Valley, and the 2015 harvest just finished. Whenever you eat sushi rice anywhere in the United States, chances are it came from California. The rice fields also provide a necessary habitat for wildfowl on the Pacific Flyway. So next time you buy rice, try to support a small local farm like Massa Organics near Chico (http://massaorganics.com). They go to the Sunday farmers market under the freeway to sell their organic brown rice. Ask about their house made of rice straw while you're there.
