Hey, ladies

Like the rest of the service industry, bartenders deal with misogyny. There’s always going to be the drunk creep who can’t take a hint. There’s always going to be sexual harassment. And, anecdotally, that’s a big reason why bartending continues to be dominated by men. Locally, there are some rad women working behind the bar, and Bottle & Barlow (1120 R Street) is celebrating them with a party, Girls Up Front, at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 6. Bottle & Barlow’s own lady bartenders, Karina Martinez, Jenna Zavislan and Britta Currie, will be featuring a special cocktail menu sponsored by Ketel One Vodka. Here’s to hoping there’s much more on offer than just vodka, though, as many women like drinking dry, spirit-forward cocktails—shout out to the Bourbon Babes! The event benefits Women’s Empowerment, which helps homeless women gain employment and achieve healthy lifestyles. More at www.facebook.com/bottleandbarlow.
