Art of coffee

It’s become standard in Sacramento’s rich coffee scene to expect a certain level of beauty in your espresso drinks. A blob of foam just doesn’t cut it anymore. We demand hearts, tulips and the almighty rosettes hovering effortlessly above our lattes and cappuccinos. We demand art! Luckily, Sacramento baristas tend to oblige and even get competitive about it. Enter the annual Sacramento Public Latte Art Tournament (SPLAT). In this year’s third edition, baristas will battle head-to-head monthly, accumulating points to qualify for the grand finale in October. The winner takes home major coffee prizes and, perhaps more importantly, bragging rights. Check out the first round at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters (4749 Folsom Boulevard). All events are free, open to the public and fueled by caffeine.
