70. Dress for summer survival

Sacramento summers are notoriously hot (but it’s a dry heat!), which means one needs to dress for survival. Loose, flowing clothes; breathable fabrics and barely there sandals are key. Shop Cuffs, which has locations in Midtown and Davis, makes it easy with hip, boho-chic fashions at affordable prices that rival the cheap, mass-produced clothing found at big box stores. Shop Cuffs stores are on the smaller side, but they’re packed with clothing and accessories. Most of it’s new, but there’s also a well-curated vintage section.

Overwhelmed? Best to start with that summer staple, the swimsuit. The shop has several options—crocheted bikinis and floral tankinis are popular—but those in need of a standout poolside-ready suit should check out the striped black-and-white high-necked bodysuit ($24). It basically screams, “I’m going to summer in a lounge chair sipping on Chablis”—an admirable #lifegoal for sure.

Away from the pool, slip into a mini, open-backed floral romper ($36) for a fresh take on the ’90s revival. Or, if you’re feeling a little edgier, go for the black, layered T-shirt dress ($32).

Pair either with some two-tone buckle sandals ($34). The low heels are solid and chunky, all the better to make your way through a crowded festival.

Finally, sunglasses are a must and every pair here is only $15, including the retro oversized, white cat’s eye frames. At that price you can afford to stock up because you just know you’re going to lose or break a few on that rafting trip, hike or hot and dusty outdoor show. That’s sort of what summer’s all about, isn’t it? 2523 J Street, (916) 443-2881; 231 Third Street in Davis, (530) 204-8813; www.shopcuffs.com. R.L.
