Fondue, The Rind

The great American fondue craze of the '70s may be long gone, but dipping stuff into melty, gooey cheese isn't any less of a pleasing idea. The Rind recently launched fondue nights on Mondays: get a small pot of traditional Swiss fondue—Gruyere plus white wine—with bite-sized pieces of cauliflower, broccoli, green apple and baguette for $13. But last week, the cheese bar unveiled a more American version, featuring cheddar cheese and Deschutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter. The result is bold and smoky, with a subtle hoppy bite. The serving size is perfect to split for a fun, interactive appetizer. 1801 L Street, www.therindsacramento.com.
