Thirteen Days
We all know how it ended, but that doesn’t keep director Roger Donaldson’s account of the Cuban Missile Crisis from being anything but top-notch, rousing entertainment. Kevin Costner is excellent as an advisor to President Kennedy (Bruce Greenwood) during an era when global annihilation was just one wrong decision away. Contains some of the year’s best action, including a sequence where a U.S. spy plane tries to evade guided missiles. Engrossing in its depiction of the progression of events that led us to the brink of nuclear war, and the political wrangling that Kennedy endured en route to his final decisions.
