Alien Autopsy
Director Jonny Campbell and writer William Davies tell the story of Ray Santilli (Declan Donnelly) and Gary Shoefield (Ant McPartlin), who in 1995 gained fleeting fame by passing off a film they shot in a London apartment as a record of the alleged 1947 UFO crash in Roswell, N.M. It’s a droll story, told with a straight face that makes the quintessentially British shuck-and-jive all the more hilarious. Donnelly and McPartlin look like kids dressed up in their daddy’s movie, but the real Santilli and Shoefield (credited as executive producers) appear at the end, explaining that they only made the fake film because the “real” footage had decomposed. This makes the movie not only amusing in its own right, but also (evidently) part of Santilli and Shoefield’s cheeky effort to keep the hoax alive.
