Attempted murderer wanted
Police name the suspect in the stabbing of former A.S. president
Chico police released the name of the suspect in the brutal, unprovoked stabbing last spring of then-Associated Students President Joseph Igbineweka.
During a press conference Monday afternoon (Jan. 31), Chief Mike Maloney said detectives have been working diligently to locate the 20-year-old alleged attacker, Jorge Aguilar Ceja (pictured) of Chico. Ceja is 6 feet tall and 270 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
He’s wanted for attempted murder in Igbineweka’s stabbing, which took place last April on West Sacramento Avenue. The Department of Justice recently linked Ceja to the crime through DNA; his blood, along with Igbineweka’s, was found on a multiple-blade pocket knife located near the scene of the attack.
Lt. Mike O’Brien said Ceja has a record, including a history of misdemeanor assaults and threats. His DNA made it into the DOJ database due to a “gang enhancement” charge that elevates misdemeanors to felonies.
